Jack London was born John Griffith Chaney, in San Francisco, USA, in 1876. Although he attended school, Jack also worked from a young age in a variety of jobs, such as selling newspapers and as a watchman. London travelled widely as a jounalist but eventually bought a ranch in California and settled there, although he still continued to travel and sailed extensively in the South Seas. His best-known works are Call of the Wild (1903) and White Fang (1906). He died in 1916, aged 40.
